Forget peanuts and Cracker Jacks. Forget the perennial I-70 baseball rivalry. It was a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket that made the Kansas City Royals game against the St. Louis Cardinals a memorable event for Marcia Bartholomew of Parsons, Kan. While those around her at Kauffman Stadium eyed the ballgame in progress, Bartholomew was scratching off a “Red Hot and Wild 7s” ticket that revealed a top prize of $77,000.
She purchased the ticket on June 23 at one of the Lottery’s instant ticket vending machines located at Kauffman.
“We were so glad to get these machines in the stadium, so fans could enjoy their favorite Lottery Scratchers game, while enjoying the ballpark,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director for the Missouri Lottery. “It made my day to learn that someone won a top prize there.”
“We couldn’t believe it,” Bartholomew, 50, said of her reaction, as well as that of her boyfriend, Bradley. “I kept that ticket in my purse and kept my purse with me at all times. We didn’t tell nobody.”
Back home with the ticket signed and safely tucked away, she made plans to drive to the Lottery’s Springfield regional office the following week to claim her prize. She said she already had a few ideas in mind for using the unexpected cash prize.
“I need some work done on my truck, and my boyfriend has a house that needs some work,” she explained. “Then I’ll probably put some in the bank to get some interest off it.”
“Red Hot and Wild 7s” is a $5 game that officially started Sept. 17, 2011, and offers a top prize of $77,000. Remaining prizes for this game, and all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games, can be tracked at Molottery.com.
Missouri Lottery instant ticket vending machines can also be found at other sporting venues, including Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
