Sikeston Break Time Sells Another $50,000 'Crossword' Ticket

David Sherrion of Matthews once saw an in-store sign about a winning Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket, and he hoped that it would someday refer to a ticket he was fortunate enough to be holding. Enter Lady Luck.

“I saw a sign at the store that someone had won $50,000 on a ‘Crossword’ ticket, and I thought, ‘Why couldn’t it be me?’” he said with a laugh.

Several months later, it was him. Sherrion bought a “Bonus Word Crossword” game at that very same Break Time, located at 1302 S. Main in Sikeston, and ended up claiming a $50,000 top prize of his own.

When asked if he recalled the 11th word – the last word in the puzzle that spelled the difference between a $5,000 prize and a $50,000 payday – his response was quick.

“It was ‘tab,’” he said. “And I’ve looked at that ticket about a thousand times now!”

With his newfound winnings, Sherrion plans to “pay off some things and put some back for the kids.”

He also plans to continue playing “Crossword” Scratchers games.

“Oh, I’ll play, but I’m not going to go hog wild,” he concluded. “I’ll stick to three or four every now and then.”

Bonus Word Crossword” is a $3 game that officially started Jan. 5 and offers a top prize of $50,000. Remaining prizes for this game, and all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games, can be tracked at Molottery.com.
