Carpenter from Richwoods Wins $25,797 Prize After Taking Friend's Advice
Instead of going home from work and cutting the grass, a Richwoods man ended up winning $25,797 playing Club Keno.
Peter “Pete” Ramsey, 48, said he and his wife, Melanie, were headed home when their son, Kyle, called to say he locked himself out of his car. Ramsey asked his wife to drop him off at the American Legion #297, 205 N. Washington Ave. in Union, while she drove the keys to their son in Washington. While at the Legion, Ramsey played his favorite two numbers in the Missouri Lottery’s Club Keno game.
“I usually play two numbers, but they didn’t hit,” he explained. “My buddy said, ‘Why don’t you play eight numbers (spots) and win big money?
Ramsey said his friend had just won $80 playing Club Keno with an 8-spot ticket.
When Ramsey played the 8-spot games, he watched his winning numbers being drawn on the monitor.
“There ain’t no way,” said Ramsey, who is a carpenter for Spartan Showcase in Union.
He thought he probably won around $1,500, but he was elated to find out the prize was really worth $25,797.
Ramsey said he called his wife and she didn’t believe him.
“I had to swear on my Mom’s grave,” he said, about telling his wife it was the truth.
Ramsey said they plan to put some of the winnings in the bank, use some for college expenses for two of their three kids who have yet to go, and his wife may buy some new clothes.
“We have a trip to Florida planned,” he said. “Now we might upgrade to the penthouse!”
Club Keno is a Draw Game with drawings every four minutes. Originally only available in age-controlled environments, players can now play Keno To Go at any Missouri Lottery retail location.
