Callao Woman Lands $100,000 Payout

Story Photo audio icon A Callao woman scored a $100,000 payday on a Missouri Lottery “$1,000,000 Payout” Scratchers ticket. Connie Foster, 55, was enjoying some down time at Mini Mart, 28841 Sunset Dr. in Macon, with her husband, Steve, on May 19.

“We were drinking pop,” explained Steve. “We go over on Saturday afternoons. We have to stay away. We’ve got 10 grandkids, and we’ll be babysitting if we don’t keep moving.”

The afternoon hangout is working well for the Fosters. They play a few Scratchers tickets, like the “$1,000,000 Payout” ticket Connie bought Saturday.

“It’s a winning ticket. I mean, we’ve bought it before and won some on it,” said Connie. “I won $1,000 not very long ago.”

The latest discovery of a $100,000 created quite a stir at the Mini Mart.

“We both had a heart attack,” said the couple simultaneously.

“Then everybody in the store started crying,” added their daughter, April.

“This one woman, I don’t know who she was, she said, ‘Oh my God. Can I touch it?’” recalled Connie, with a laugh. “She started crying, too, just looking at it.”

The win comes at a good time for the line worker at Con-Agra Foods in Macon. Her husband is retired from the plant, and Connie has one year until she’s eligible.

“I want to get a car and pay bills,” said Connie.

“Try to get out of debt, and get her a car,” added Steve, when asked how they would use the prize money. “I’ve been chauffeuring her since November.”

He joked that the win would give him more time to sleep and “maybe do a little fishing.”

The couple mentioned dreams of a "real" vacation – but no plans were made, yet.  Steve has no plans beyond visiting the Mini Mart on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s still kind of a shock,” said Steve. “Definitely changes your life. You just don’t think it will ever happen.”

“But it does,” added Connie. “Don’t give up. Just keep trying.”

$1,000,000 Payout” is a $10 game that officially began Jan. 10. The game features a top prize of $1 million. More than $22 million in prizes, including three top prizes, remain in the game.
