Warrensburg Woman Banks $100,000 Lottery Prize
Cynthia Palmer was on her way home from work at Whiteman Air Force Base when she decided to stop for a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. She pulled into Casey’s General Store, 1118 S. Ridgeview Dr. in her hometown of Warrensburg, and bought a $10 ticket concealing a $100,000 prize.
“It’s kind of like a little voice inside me said, ‘Buy it,’” she recalled. “I think my mama might have had something to do with that.”
Palmer, 46, took the “$1,000,000 Payout” Scratchers ticket home to scratch.
“At first, I thought I won $10,” she began. “Then, I scratched the first one off and saw what it was. I kept going, and there were nine more just like it. I kind of hooted and hollered and jumped up and down. My neighbors probably thought I was crazy!”
The prizes added up to $100,000. She tucked the ticket in a safe until she could claim the prize at the Kansas City Lottery office on Monday, May 7.
Palmer said she called her sister with the news right away, because her husband “was not far behind me, and I didn’t want to shock him while he was driving.” When her husband, Hugh, got home, Palmer told him to “sit down.”
“He didn’t believe me,” she said, noting that the experience was “very surreal.”
“I couldn’t quite believe it,” she added.
Palmer plans to keep it simple following the win.
“Put some away for a rainy day and pay off stuff, of course,” she offered. “Maybe go to Las Vegas for my daughter’s 21st birthday.”
She said she’ll continue to play the Lottery, especially if she hears the call again.
” is a $10 game that officially began Jan. 10. More than $23 million in prizes, including three top prizes of $1 million, remain in the game.
