Jefferson City Man Makes $50,000 with Leftover Milk Money

Story Photo While shoppers were filling their carts with groceries, a Jefferson City man was lining his pockets with cash, thanks to a stop for milk and a Missouri Lottery ticket. Richard Houser, 42, uncovered a $50,000 top prize on a “Bonus Word Crossword” ticket he bought at Gerbes, 2805 W. Truman Blvd., in Jefferson City.
“When I went to the parking lot, I scratched it off,” Houser recalled. “I thought it wasn’t right. I went back in the store to check.”
After receiving confirmation from a store clerk, Houser said he was “psyched.”
“I’m going to pay my house off,” he shared. “And I’m going to get new golf clubs. With the extra money, I’ll be able to go out and use the new golf clubs.”

Bonus Word Crossword,” a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, officially started on Jan. 5.
