Eolia Couple Splits $50,100 Lottery Prize
A couple from Eolia has claimed a $50,100 Missouri Lottery top prize on a “Diamond Mine” Scratchers game. Travis Thurman, 36, bought the winning ticket on April 15 at Pick-A-Dilly, 101 E. Highway, in Center. He said that he and his wife, Jennifer, 34, bought the ticket on the way to Mark Twain Lake.
“Actually, we bought it together and then went out to the car to scratch it,” began Thurman. “We were scratching, and we thought we only won $100. We kept going and ended up coming up with the bigger amount. So, it was pretty exciting.”
Thurman said he chose the “Diamond Mine” ticket at random. He also tried a “Mega MONOPOLY™” ticket since his mother had won $1,000 recently. Jennifer Thurman had won a $1,000 prize previously as well, but this was their first top prize.
The couple commutes to St. Louis for work – Travis is a sheet-metal worker and Jennifer a nurse – but they have no plans to relocate from Eolia. Thurman said the windfall would be used to pay bills.
“I haven’t thought too much about it yet,” he said while claiming the prize on April 16. “We’ll pay bills like everybody else,” he laughed.
He also admitted he’ll continue playing the Lottery. Thurman said he plays all of the games “religiously.”
“Just hang in there,” he suggested to other Lottery players. “It will eventually happen, I guess.”
” is a $3 game that officially began Jan. 10. The Thurmans claimed the fifth top prize of six in the game. More than $2.5 million in prizes remain.
