Co-workers from the Admissions Office at the University of Missouri - Kansas City have been named the Missouri Lottery’s April Team of the Month, as part of the Lottery’s ongoing Captains Club promotion. Calling themselves “The Mega Roos” after their school’s kangaroo mascot, the team plays Mega Millions together on the last Friday of every month.
“It was the big jackpot that got the office excited about playing,” said Bradley Brattin, the team’s Lottery coordinator, referring to the recent world record jackpot offered in the Mega Millions game. The jackpot grew to $656 million between Jan. 25 and when it was hit on March 30.
“The Mega Roos” consist of 13 members: Bradley Brattin of Greenwood; Mary Adams, Brenda Bolden, Mara Gee, Antoya Harris, Kindra Smith, Deidra West and Latanya Woods, all of Kansas City; Barbetta Roach of Raymore; Joan Belt of Liberty; Noelle Seufert of St. Joseph; David Jordan of St. Louis; and Lynee Anderson of Topeka, Kan.
On the last Friday of each month, team members contribute $2 to the pool. Quick Pick tickets are then purchased from a QuikTrip just down the road from their office.
“Everyone is given copies of the tickets, so they would know right away if we won,” Brattin explained.
Ideas about what to do with a big jackpot prize vary.
“We like sharing what we would do with the money; it is fun to hear the dreams of the office,” he said. “Most of us would keep working at least for a time, but doing something for your family to help them out seemed to be a repeating theme with my team.”
As the Lottery’s Team of the Month, “The Mega Roos” will receive a prize package of Lottery merchandise, as well as a feature on the Lottery’s website.
