When James Miller stopped to get gas on April 7, he realized he hadn’t yet purchased a ticket for that night’s Powerball drawing. While remedying the situation, he decided to throw in a Missouri Lottery “Caesars” Scratchers ticket as well – a decision that scored the Columbia man a trip to Las Vegas and a stay at the world-renowned Caesar’s Palace hotel.
Miller, 50, uncovered the instant-win trip on his Scratchers game after returning home from Break Time, 2709 Broadway, in Columbia. After catching himself staring at the winning ticket in disbelief, Miller asked his wife for verification.
“I took it to her and said, ‘Am I reading this right?’” he laughed, noting that he then locked the ticket in a safe until he could claim his prize at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City.
Neither Miller nor his wife has been to Las Vegas, and he said they are already looking forward to it.
“It’ll be really interesting to see Hoover Dam and the sights around Vegas,” he shared, adding that he was also eager to look up information about Caesar’s Palace and what it has to offer.
Miller’s instant-win trip includes: roundtrip airfare for two; a deluxe hotel room at Caesar’s Palace; $1,000 in spending cash; and ground transportation to and from the airport.
“Caesars,” a $5 ticket that officially began Feb. 11, offers a top prize of $100,000. To date, five top prizes and more than 35 trips to Caesar’s Palace remain unclaimed in the game. Remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be tracked at Molottery.com.
