Osage Beach Man Collects $20,000 on Favorite Game

Story Photo audio icon Michael Atwell of Osage Beach has been playing and winning prizes on the Missouri Lottery’s “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers tickets for years. So when he saw “the little top hat” symbol appear on his most recently purchased ticket, he assumed he’d snatched up another small win. After saying, “Please, let it be bigger than $5,” he realized he’d just uncovered his largest prize yet – a $20,000 payday.

The windfall will allow the 68-year-old to “do some repairs at home” he’s been hoping to complete “for too many years.”

“I have needed new carpet and new flooring in my kitchen,” Atwell explained. “I have to replace them both at the same time. I just haven’t been able to afford it.”

The father-of-three also intends to share the windfall with each of his boys.

When asked if he plans to keep playing “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers tickets, he said although the game “has been pretty good” to him, he will now try his luck on other games and look for his next “big winner.”

Atwell bought his winning “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket at Jiffy Stop, 5940 Highway 54, in Osage Beach.

Mega MONOPOLY™”  is a $10 game with a top prize of $2 million that officially started on Aug. 29, 2009.
