John Wiley’s day went from ordinary to extraordinary in a few short minutes when the Crane man took a break from his lawn mowing duties on April 5. To his surprise, the desire for something cold to drink led him straight to a $100,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery “20X” Scratchers game.

“I was mowing the grass and just went up there to get a drink,” Wiley, 48, explained of his trip to Casey’s, 1306 W. Mount Vernon St., in Nixa.

While he was there, he decided to try his luck on a Scratchers game.

“I scratched it right out in the parking lot,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t tell anybody.”

With the clerk who sold him the winning ticket still unaware of the prize it revealed, Wiley made plans to travel to Springfield to present his ticket for claim at one of the Lottery’s regional offices.

His immediate plans for the money are to save it.

“20X” is a $5 ticket that officially began Jan. 10. To date, more than $11.4 million in prizes have been awarded in the game. Remaining prizes for all Missouri Lottery Scratchers games can be tracked at Molottery.com.
