Powerball Prize Sends Westphalia Postmaster Packing

Story Photo audio icon Steven Schnieders and his family are getting ready to take a vacation, thanks to winning a $10,000 Powerball® prize from the drawing on March 7. The 56-year-old Westphalia postmaster had been planning a trip anyway, but the unexpected windfall will “make it a lot easier” to take his wife and their three children to Colorado.

The first-time Lottery winner buys “one ticket every week” for Powerball, but he doesn’t always check his numbers right away.

“Until I turned the ticket in this morning, I didn’t know,” recalled Schnieders, noting how he kept the winning ticket in his pocket for several days after the drawing. “It’s been one of those good days.”

Schnieders purchased his winning Quick Pick ticket at Joe’s Market, Highway 63 S., in Westphalia. The winning numbers from the March 7 drawing were:  12, 35, 45, 46 and 47. The Powerball was 12.

Powerball is a multi-lottery game that features jackpots starting at $40 million.
