HOW TO PLAY

  • Pick five numbers between 1 and 56. Then pick one additional number between 1 and 46 as the Mega Ball® number.
  • Players can win nine ways on Mega Millions, ranging from the jackpot down to $2.
  • If your Mega Ball® number matches the Mega Ball® number drawn, you win a prize. Without the Mega Ball® number, you have to match at least three of the other five numbers to win a prize.
  • The overall chances of winning a prize in Mega Millions are 1 in 39.89.
  • Mega Millions players can also multiply their non-jackpot winnings up to four times using the Megaplier® feature. For $1 extra, players can win two, three or four times the regular set prize amount.  Players who match all five white-ball numbers will automatically win $1 million.  See the Mega Millions page for more details.
  • Approximately 92 percent of Mega Millions players use Quick Pick to select their numbers during an average period.

TIPS

  • Play early to avoid long lines.  The terminals will shut down at 8:59 p.m. Friday, and no one will be able to buy tickets after that time.
  • Play within your means. It only takes $1 to win.
  • When you buy a ticket, sign it immediately and keep it in a safe place. Like money, it is a bearer instrument.
  • Be sure to check your ticket closely. Even if you don’t win the jackpot, you may have won one of the eight other prizes in the game.
