Columbia Woman Wins Trip to Las Vegas
Martha Hartman of Columbia occasionally plays the Missouri Lottery, but she doesn’t fret over which tickets to buy. Since winning is random, she usually just lets the clerk choose games for her. The clerk at Hy-Vee, 3100 W. Broadway in Columbia, gave her a “Caesars” Scratchers ticket in February on which Hartman uncovered a trip to Las Vegas.
“I always say, if you’re going to win, you’re going to win no matter if you pick it or what,” she explained. “I said just hand me a ticket, and she did.”
When Hartman scratched the ticket at home, she realized that she had won a trip for two to Las Vegas, one of 25 trips that can be won instantly in the game. Trip winners get three nights of accommodations at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, round-trip airfare, ground transportation to and from the hotel and $1,000 in spending cash.
“It’s pretty darn nice, isn’t it?” said Hartman about the vacation. “I might take in a show, too.”
The retired insurance worker hasn’t decided when she will take the trip or who she might take with her. Hartman said her two daughters have suggested that they should benefit from the win.
“I haven’t decided,” she teased. “I have a friend who goes a lot, and I have a brother who has never been to Vegas, so I’m debating.”
Hartman said she wins smaller prizes regularly, but it’s not all luck.
“You’ve got to play to win, number one,” she declared. “People say, ‘You’re so lucky.’ Well, they don’t play.”
Hartman said she’ll try the “Caesars” game again while she’s planning her vacation.
” is a $5 game that officially began Feb. 11. The game features a top prize of $100,000 and instant-win prizes of a trip to two to Las Vegas. The Missouri Lottery pays the taxes on the trip, bringing the total value of the prize to $5,915.
