Republic Man Using Lottery Loot to Pay Taxes

Story Photo audio icon Larry Melton of Republic is $4,000 richer after uncovering the prize amount on a Missouri Lottery “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket. The 69-year-old retired operations supervisor said the prize came at an opportune time, because it will “take care of my taxes from last year without getting into my retirement money.”

Melton, who shared that he’s won several thousand dollars playing Club Keno and Scratchers games in the past, joked that he keeps “waiting for the real big one.”

“It hasn’t hit yet,” he added over laugher.

As for how he plans to celebrate his most-recent win, “I’m going to go home and sit back in the easy chair and watch a little golf.”

When asked for advice for fellow Lottery players, he said to “keep plugging.”

“You can’t win, if you don’t play,” he concluded.

Mega MONOPOLY™” is a $10 game with a top prize of $2 million that officially started on Aug. 29, 2009. Melton purchased his winning ticket at Price Cutter, 1013 E. Highway 60, in Republic.
