“I usually don’t buy $20 tickets,” a smiling Ron Neale of Mexico said, as he presented a winning Scratchers ticket worth $10,000 at Missouri Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City. The “$3,000,000 Taxes Paid” ticket he purchased at Xpress Mart, 1109 E. Liberty St. in Mexico, revealed one of the game’s 90 $10,000 prizes.

“I won $20,” he said of the first Scratchers games he bought that day. “So, I said, ‘Why not go ahead and get the $20 one?’”

After scratching the ticket in his truck and realizing what he had won, Neale called his wife, Mary Ellen, and the pair immediately made plans to claim his prize.

“Oh, I could tell by listening to his voice that this was real; it kind of cracked,” Mary Ellen said.

“Yeah, I was shaking pretty good,” he laughingly agreed.

Neale said his primary use for the unexpected income will be paying bills.
