Excelsior Springs Man Makes $1 Million with Match 5 Powerball Prize

Story Photo The millionaires in Missouri keep multiplying, thanks to Powerball’s new prize structure. Virgil Mawby of Excelsior Springs used Quick Pick to match all five white-ball numbers drawn on Feb. 11. This marks the third time a Missourian has won $1 million since the game changed in mid-January. Prior to Jan. 15, Powerball players who matched all five white-ball numbers won $200,000.
Mawby purchased his Powerball ticket at Bee Line Snack Shop, 1005 Isley Blvd., in Excelsior Springs.
Powerball is a multi-lottery game that gives players nine ways to win cash prizes with the jackpot starting at $40 million. In addition to the jackpot, the game offers second-level prizes of $1 million, third-level prizes of $10,000 and better-than-ever payouts by using Power Play. Mawby is the 334th Missouri Lottery-made millionaire.
