Retired Elementary Teacher Wins Show Me Cash Jackpot

Story Photo audio icon Nonavee Trocosso of Independence was “absolutely stunned” when she realized she was holding a winning Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash ticket worth $70,001. The retired elementary school teacher used a “combination of family things” to select the winning numbers from the drawing on Feb. 6.

It wasn’t until the morning after the drawing that she learned she had won the jackpot.

“I was reading the paper, and I looked down and I thought, ‘Gee, those (numbers) look kind of familiar,’” Trocosso recalled. “I went to the computer and double-checked to be sure my paper was correct and my ticket matched.”

Although Trocosso has won smaller Scratchers and Pick 4 prizes in the past, she had “never won that much money before.”

With a laugh, she noted that when she shared the news with her husband of 48 years, Gerald, he “didn’t believe me, so I had to show him.”

While claiming the prize at the Lottery’s regional office in Independence, the Trocossos, grandparents-of-two, said they planned to use the winnings to “help our grandsons.”

Trocosso purchased her Show Me Cash ticket at Price Chopper, 4201 S. Noland Road, in Independence. The winning numbers from the Feb. 6 drawing were:  2, 10, 15, 18 and 38.

Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot starting at $50,000, which increases by at least $5,000 at each drawing. Trocosso was the 182nd Show Me Cash jackpot winner since the game began on Sept. 8, 2008.
