A group of Boone County residents has been named the Missouri Lottery’s February Team of the Month as part of the Lottery’s ongoing Captains Club promotion. Team members, going by the name “Survivors of 2010,” cite dreams of “vacations, paid-off mortgages and retirement” as their reason for playing Lotto and Mega Millions each week.
Their Lottery team consists of: Gene Basinger of Hartsburg; Leslie Deason of Moberly; Ron Lueck of Columbia; and Jim Yonley of Ashland. The team’s members, who formerly worked together at an engineering and surveying business, survived downsizing and ultimately company closure in 2010.
“But we have stayed together in the Lottery team, hence the title, ‘Survivors,’” explained Lueck, who serves as the team’s captain and coordinator.
He said it all began in 2000 when fellow employees “became interested in my having luckily achieved five of six numbers being chosen twice in 1999 on Missouri Lotto.”
Today, the four remaining members pitch in $2 each week hoping to hit a jackpot prize on one of the Quick Pick tickets Lueck purchases at Columbia and other area Break Time stores.
“We’ll play those same set of random numbers for three draws,” he added. “When enough Lotto ‘free tickets’ or money from the Mega Millions winnings comes through, we get to bypass the donation to the fund and use those winnings.”
Lueck advises fellow Lottery players to “limit your play to an amount you don’t need to live on. Do it consistently, and let your dreams fly.”
As the Lottery’s Team of the Month, the “Survivors of 2010” will receive a prize package of Lottery merchandise, as well as a feature on the Lottery’s website. To tell us about your team, or learn more about any Missouri Lottery games, visit Molottery.com.
