Sedalia Man's Stop for Ice Leads to Cold-Hard Cash

Story Photo audio icon A last-minute Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket purchase led a Sedalia man to a $5,000 payday. Raymond Mitts of Sedalia remembered that his wife “wanted some tickets” while standing in line at Break Time, 318 W. Broadway, in Sedalia. The 63-year-old United States Army veteran bought a few “Bonus Word Crossword” tickets in addition to his bag of ice. As luck would have it, one of the “Bonus Word Crossword” games held a $5,000 prize.
“At first, I thought that I won $100,” Mitts recalled, noting that he had been having a “usual day” until the moment he scratched off the prize amount and realized how much he had really won.
“I was very excited,” Mitts added.
As for how he’ll use the windfall, he said that he and his wife “thought about it and talked about it,” but their only solid plan for the money is to celebrate with dinner.

Bonus Word Crossword,” a $3 game with a top prize of $50,000, started Jan. 5.
