Florissant Teacher Wins Show Me Cash Jackpot
A teacher in the Ferguson-Florissant school district claimed a $125,000 Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash jackpot from the Jan. 17 drawing. Vickie Meyers, 39, bought the winning ticket while spending a night out with friends.
“I was doing happy hour with some girlfriends of mine,” Meyers explained. “We were at a place that sells Lottery, so I got it there.”
Meyers bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at B S Sports Bar and Grill, 10471 St. Charles Rock Road, in St. Ann. She said that she occasionally plays when the jackpots are high.
“I don’t play it every day, because I’m not in front of a lottery machine. But if I see it, I’ll play. It just depends how much the Powerball is up,” she added.
Meyers was one of two people to match all five winning numbers for that drawing, splitting the $250,000 jackpot. The other winning ticket was sold in Kansas City and is yet unclaimed. There has been more than one winning jackpot ticket in about 10 percent of the 179 jackpots awarded in Show Me Cash. Meyers wasn’t upset about having to split the prize with another winner.
“It’s just incredibly exciting, I mean, overwhelming,” she suggested. “It’s incredible.”
Meyers found out she had a winning ticket by scanning it on a Check-A-Ticket machine.
“I was shocked,” she recalled about that moment. “I stood there, and then I started shaking. Then I called my husband and started screaming. I was very excited.”
Meyers said she quickly left the store before anyone noticed.
Plans for the windfall include paying down student loans and buying a new home.
“We are already in the process of putting our house up for sale, so we’re going to use this as a down-payment,” she said.
And she’ll likely keep an eye on those jackpots.
“You can’t win if you don’t play,” suggested Meyers.
