Kansas City Man Wins $50,000 Lottery Prize
James Henry of Kansas City ended up with the Missouri Lottery ticket he wanted. It wasn’t the ticket he intended to buy, but the steel worker was more than happy with his “Bonus Crossword” ticket after uncovering a $50,000 prize. He bought it at QuikTrip, 4327 Main St., in Kansas City.
“I was in the store for something else, saw it and thought, ‘What the heck?’” began Henry. “I just pick whatever’s random, kind of hanging out of their little dispenser.”
Henry said he asked for something else, but the store clerk tried to give him the “Bonus Crossword” ticket.
“He grabbed the wrong ticket, and then he put them back,” recalled Henry. “And then there wasn’t the ticket that I wanted, so I got those ones anyway.”
The 29-year-old didn’t scratch it right away, but when he later uncovered the $50,000 prize at home, he was more than surprised.
“I sat there and stared at it for about 20 minutes after I realized what it was,” he said.
Henry added that he would take a trip to his home state of Colorado, and he indicated plans to “pay off my student loans, so I can go to grad school and get more student loans.”
He also committed to continue playing the Lottery. Henry invited others to “buy it because it benefits the schools.”
” is a $3 game that officially began Jan. 5. Henry claimed the second of 11 top prizes in the game. More than $11 million in prizes remain. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at Molottery.com.
