Bonne Terre Lottery Winner Pockets $100,000
Janet Cooley was enjoying dinner at Crossroads Restaurant with her husband, Michael, and a few friends on Dec. 13.
Cooley often meets with friends to enjoy a good meal and play Scratchers.
Her dessert that evening was very sweet when she scratched her way to $100,000 with a Missouri Lottery “Silver Bells” Scratchers ticket.
“We have a group that meets at Crossroads, in Bonne Terre, and we eat and play Scratchers tickets together.
My husband and I bought this ticket after dinner was over and the group had already gone home.
I think they left too early,” she explained.
Cooley was stunned as she scratched her ticket to reveal not one, but five, winning symbols.
"I saw the first candy cane and thought I’d won $20,000.
I thought I’d scratched it wrong,” Cooley explained.
“So I handed the ticket to my husband and said, ‘Did I do it right?’”
Each candy cane was worth $20,000, totaling the top-prize amount of $100,000.
The prize was the biggest she has ever won.Cooley, 53, a Head Start deputy director from Bonne Terre, said she plans to share her prize with her three children, pay bills, and put the rest in her savings account.
