California Man Finds $5,000 Winning Lottery Ticket

Story Photo audio icon Royal Kirchner of California is a regular Lottery player. He was checking several tickets while cleaning out his car when he discovered a Missouri Lottery “$100,000 Payday Bonus” ticket that wasn’t scratched. He began to scratch the ticket and was “pretty happy” to see that all 25 prizes matched the winning numbers. The ticket turned out to be worth $5,000.

“I scratched all the numbers off first and noticed that they all matched on the front,” began Kirchner. “They all matched on the back. I thought, ‘It will probably be a $5, $10 or $1 prize for my luck.’ I started scratching them (prizes) off, and they were all $200.”

“I was like, ‘Nice,’” he added, clapping and rubbing his hands together for emphasis.

Kirchner had already decided how he would use the prize money. He mentioned that it would be a “good Christmas” for his 18-year-old daughter, and some of the money will be used to transport a car from Chicago. He father passed away last year and bequeathed him a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII.

“First thing that went through my head was to get my father’s car back from Chicago. It’s not running, and I’m going to have a car service come and get it,” he explained.

While he plays Scratchers games the most, Kirchner, 50, said he has his sights trained on winning a Draw Game.

“I’d just like to win Show Me Cash; just once,” he fantasized.

Kirchner will keep working on that dream and pursuing other chances. He recently entered tickets into the “Silver Anniversary” second-chance promotion.

“If I win, I’ll be happy. If I don’t, ‘C’est la vie,’” he said.

He offered some advice for other players.

“Remember to clean out your car,” he suggested.

Kirchner bought the winning ticket at Casey’s General Store, 308 S. Oak St., in California.

$100,000 Payday Bonus” is a $5 game that officially began July 2.
