Marthasville Man Wins $250,000 Prize

audio icon A Marthasville man has claimed the first top prize on a Missouri Lottery “Holiday Treasures” Scratchers ticket. Michael House, 55, uncovered the $250,000 prize on a ticket he purchased at Country Club Express Car Wash, 1744 Wentzville Parkway, in Wentzville.

“I had two (winners) and I traded them in,” House began. “Sometimes when I get one, I’ll swap up.”

He went on to explain that he ended up with the “Holiday Treasures” ticket by chance. Someone else had purchased all of the tickets he originally asked for when he decided to “swap up.” He was pleased with the outcome. House said he “started shaking” when he uncovered the prize.

“I couldn’t believe it, really,” recalled House. “I kept looking at it and re-checking it.”

The first-time Lottery winner, who talked about recent hard times, said the windfall would help him “get back on my feet.”

“I’ll get out of debt and see what I have left,” he suggested. “It’s a great thing.”

Holiday Treasures” is a $10 game that officially began Oct. 22. In addition to a top prize of $250,000, players can enter non-winning “Holiday Treasures” Scratchers tickets into the “Cash Away, Cash Away, Cash Away All!” second-chance promotion. In the promotion, players can win cash prizes of $15,000, $1,000 and $500.
