Jefferson City Club Owner Wins Record Keno Prize

Story Photo The owner of Jamey’s Private Club in Jefferson City is the winner of the Missouri Lottery’s largest Club Keno prize to date – $266,110. Jamey Zumwalt, 44, stopped in his club the morning of Dec. 1 to get some breakfast before going to do some work on another property. He decided to play a few rounds of Keno because it was his birthday, and he purchased an 8-Spot ticket with Double Bulls-Eye for several drawings. After he left, he found out that his numbers had come up for one of the drawings he purchased. Zumwalt returned to Jamey’s Private Club, 900 W. McCarty in Jefferson City, and confirmed that he did match all eight numbers on his ticket, including one Bulls-Eye number, to win $266,110.
“A lot of my buddies play regularly, and we watch the numbers,” said Zumwalt. “I actually used a few of my buddy’s birthday numbers on the ticket. We keep track of what’s coming up and play the hot numbers.”
Zumwalt’s strategy is “go big or go home.” He purchased five shares for each drawing, meaning his prize was multiplied five times. Since he only matched one Bulls-Eye number, the base prize was $50,000. With the extra plays and a progressive jackpot for playing an 8-Spot, the total prize came to $266,110 – the largest prize ever awarded in the history of Club Keno.
Zumwalt is no stranger to winning. He has claimed numerous smaller prizes, and he won $105,000 in the game in 2009.
Regarding this record win, Zumwalt said, “It’s a game-changer.”
He said he would invest the money into his businesses, which include rental properties. Zumwalt was confident this prize would “get me to retirement,” but added that it might also fund a fun vacation. He suggested that he and his girlfriend, Susan, would be taking a vacation to Las Vegas.
“Club Keno” is a daily Draw Game that features drawings every four minutes. Players choose which numbers, also called “spots,” to play between 1 and 80. Prizes are based on the number of spots played and matched in a given drawing. Additionally, players can win more with increased wagers or by adding Bulls-Eye and Double Bulls-Eye. Between now and Dec. 24, players who buy a Club Keno ticket with Double Bulls-Eye on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, will receive a free 4-Spot Club Keno ticket for the current draw.
