Edwards Woman Wins $5,000 In 'Nutcracker Cash'

Story Photo audio icon Penny Littlejohn of Edwards decided to take a chance on a Missouri Lottery “Nutcracker Cash” Scratchers ticket because it was “Christmas-y.” She’s already feeling the joy and mystery of the season after uncovering a $5,000 prize.
“I never buy Lottery tickets,” began Littlejohn. “I was going to work, and I was early. I got two tickets – the nutcracker and the bingo. The bingo was a $10 winner.”
Pleased as she was with a $10 winner, she was even more amazed as she uncovered multiple “Nutcracker” symbols on her holiday-themed Scratchers ticket.
“The lady behind the counter checked it, and sure enough, it was $5,000,” recalled Littlejohn.  “I said, ‘Until I have it in my hot little hand, I’m not going to believe it’s real.’ I hardly ever buy a ticket. This is cool.”
Littlejohn bought the winning ticket at R-Corner, 34426 Highway 65, in Warsaw. She said she would use the prize money to pay off her house, and she added that her family would “get a good Christmas.”
Littlejohn wasn’t ready to commit to buying more tickets herself, but she did offer some advice for other players.
“Since I work at a convenience store, I’ve heard all the ‘look for the white line, count the numbers, is it odd or even’ talk. No. Just give it a go,” she suggested.

Nutcracker Cash” is a $3 game that officially began Oct. 22. In addition to winning up to $50,000 instantly, players can submit $10 worth of non-winning holiday-themed Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets into the “Cash Away, Cash Away, Cash Away All” second-chance promotion. In three drawings this holiday season, the Lottery will award cash prizes of $15,000, $1,000 and $500.
