KC Co-Workers Eye Lottery Win, Named Team of the Month

A group of Kansas City metro area co-workers has been selected as the Missouri Lottery’s November Team of the Month, as part of the Lottery’s ongoing Captains Club promotion. By day, the fellow employees help others see more clearly, but by night, they envision themselves as Lottery winners. The “Eye’m a Winner” team has been going strong for about six years.

The team is made up of ophthalmology professionals and includes:  Michelle Ethington, Chasity Hurshman and Jodie Jackson, all of Independence; Yolanda Konior of Raymore; Sandie Lies of Smithville; Anne Mitchell of Overland Park, Kan.; Donna Ross of Kansas City; Danielle Saheed of Lee’s Summit; and Cherie Vannattan of Harrisonville.

“I started the group about six years ago playing Powerball,” said Jackson, who serves as the group’s Lottery coordinator. “When the jackpot was $100 million or more, I would ask my co-workers and doctors if they wanted to play. We have had as many as 40 participate. Then Yolanda and I started playing weekly, because we know one day we will win big! When Sandie and Chasity found out, they wanted in. Soon our group went from four weekly players to eight, and recently to nine.”

Jackson said her team plays “religiously every week.” Each member contributes a total of $7 to cover all Powerball, Mega Millions and Lotto drawings, as well as one Show Me Cash drawing per week.

Team members keep a credit with Jackson, who buys the group’s Quick Pick tickets at a nearby QuikTrip store.

“If they run low on their credit, I email them,” she explained. “And they send me money. You’ve got to love that!”

“I keep our group playing week after week, and we have never missed a drawing.” she enthused. “I’m a very positive person, and I believe that can be very contagious!”

“Have fun with it!” is Jackson’s advice for other lottery teams, or those thinking of forming a lottery players’ group.

She said if the group hits a big jackpot, she would use her share to “start a foundation for the parents of terminally ill children” to help pay their bills and “make their lives a little less stressful.”

As the Lottery’s Team of the Month, the “Eye’m a Winner” team will receive a prize package of Missouri Lottery merchandise, as well as a feature on the Lottery’s official website at Molottery.com.
