Carl Junction Nurse Excited About $55,558 Win

Story Photo audio icon Registered nurse Tina Buffington was on her way to work on Oct. 6 when she bought a winning Missouri Lottery ticket. She had a $6 winner from the night before and decided to buy three more “5 Times Bingo” Scratchers tickets. One of those tickets she bought at Casey’s General Store, 401 E. Pennell St. in Carl Junction, revealed the game’s top prize of $55,558.

Buffington, 41, scratched the winning ticket on her break, but she didn’t get too excited until her son, Brock, helped confirm her good fortune later that evening.

“I didn’t believe it,” began Buffington. “I looked at it and looked at it. When I got home, I had him (son) look at it.”

Brock agreed that it was a winner and then suggested that they drive to Jefferson City to claim the prize. They drove all night and were present when the Lottery opened.

“We’re excited and tired,” admitted Buffington the next morning. “We didn’t sleep last night.”

Buffington added that the windfall was “an answer to our prayers.” Although “reality hasn’t sunk in yet,” she had plenty of ideas on how to spend her prize.

“I’ve got to catch up on my mortgage payments. It’s a blessing, because this is saving my home,” she said.

Buffington also mentioned getting a new vehicle and helping her daughter and new grand-baby. Brock had other ideas.

“I want to go to Hawaii,” he suggested.

All of these things are possible now following Buffington’s $55,558 win.

While she claimed not to be a regular Scratchers player, she’ll probably be playing a few more Missouri Lottery tickets.

“I think I’m hooked now,” she said. “I like bingo in general, though.”

5 Times Bingo” is a $3 game that officially began May 28. More than $6 million in prizes have yet to be claimed in the game, including three top prizes. Players can track prizes remaining for this and every Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at Molottery.com.
