On Fridays, Vicky Sapp sometimes treats herself to a couple of Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets. She did so on Sept. 30 and was pleased to win $25.  The outcome was even sweeter, though, when she used a portion of that money to purchase two additional tickets. It was a decision that landed the administrative assistant with a $77,000 top prize, the first claimed in the Lottery’s new “Red Hot & Wild 7’s” game.

“I put the ticket in my purse and forgot all about it,” she shared with a laugh. “Then later that night on the way to dinner, I asked my boyfriend if I could scratch it off in his car – because he likes to keep it clean.”

It turns out he didn’t mind a little Scratchers dust, especially as Sapp began to scratch her ticket.

She first scratched down the left-hand side and uncovered “all black 7s,” an early indication that her ticket held a sizable reward. She then scratched the corresponding prizes and began doing the math in her head.

“For a minute, I think I went blank,” she said. “And then I was like, ‘Oh, wow!’”

Sapp didn’t have to think long when asked what she planned to do with her prize money.

“I’m going to get my kids through school. My daughter is starting cosmetology school, and my son is a junior, so his graduation will be nice,” she stated. “The rest is going into savings.”

Red Hot & Wild 7’s” is a $5 game that officially began Sept. 17. To date, more than $12.9 million in prizes remain unclaimed in the game, including six top prizes of $77,000.

Sapp purchased her winning ticket at Break Time, 6050 Highway AB, in Columbia.
