St. Charles Couple Heading West With $20,000 Lottery Win
Joy and Michael Kozuszek of St. Charles routinely buy a few Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets during their weekly shopping trips. After returning home on Sept. 13 from one such trip to Mid-Towne IGA, 317 Hawthorne Ave. in St. Charles, they were pleasantly surprised when Michael uncovered a $20,000 prize on a “Missouri Lottery’s Silver Anniversary” Scratchers ticket.
“We were at the breakfast table,” said Kozuszek. “When we got back from the store, she took hers and I got mine, and we scratched them off at the kitchen table.”
Being a police officer, Kozuszek remained calm after discovering the win.
“You kind of sit there and go, ‘Hmm. I wonder if this is really true,’” he said. “She gets excited. I don’t get that excited. I’m more content.”
Kozuszek, 63, said that the windfall would be used to “pay bills” and “maybe take a trip out west” to Las Vegas.
“This is the kind of mad money that we couldn’t do that with, if we didn’t have it,” he explained. “We might just take advantage of it. We’ll pay off the bills first, and then we’ll take that trip. If we don’t do this with this money, then it’s too hard to come by.”
Kozuszek joked that they were due for a big win.
“I still want to win that $5 million,” Kozuszek said about one of his favorite games, “$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza.”
He may change strategy, games and location, but he’ll still buy the occasional ticket.
“It’s blind luck, you know,” Kozuszek offered. “If it happens, it happens; but you can’t win if you don’t play.”
“Missouri Lottery’s Silver Anniversary
