Kyle Blumenberg’s decision to do some late-night shopping at an area Schnucks store was rewarded with a $25,000 win on a Missouri Lottery “Aces & 8’s” Scratchers ticket.
At the time, it seemed like an ordinary visit to the supermarket for the Cottleville man.
“I was doing a little shopping and just kind of did my weekly $10 in Scratchers,” he said, describing the events of the evening.
After purchasing the tickets, he headed to his own nearby business. It was there that he discovered one of the tickets held the game’s top prize of $25,000.
“Lo and behold, I had to call my wife, wake her up and tell her I won a little money,” he said, noting there was just a slight hesitation before his wife, Kimberly, believed what he was saying.
“She wasn’t necessarily able to go back to sleep right away,” he laughed.
When asked about plans for their unexpected prize money, Blumenberg said he intends to invest most of it.
“But I am going to get an iPad, too,” he noted.
Blumenberg, 40, purchased his winning ticket at Schnuck’s Market, 141 Hilltown Village Center, in Chesterfield.
“Aces & 8’s” is a $2 ticket that officially began July 2. More than $5.2 million in prizes remain unclaimed in the game.
