Macon Woman Seeks Privacy Following $5,000 Win
Charlene Troy knew the new Missouri Lottery “Bedazzled” Scratchers game was popular, because she “couldn’t find it anywhere.” So when her manager told her that there were some tickets in the store where she works, she decided to buy a couple and ended up winning a $5,000 prize.
“Every store was sold out of it” began Troy. “I told her (manager), ‘When I get ready to leave, I’ll buy a couple of them.’ I just wanted to try the new game.”
Troy, a clerk at Casey’s General Store, 807 S. Missouri St. in Macon, was headed to a second job. That’s where she scratched the tickets after wrapping up for the day. She wasn’t sure what she was seeing, so Troy took the ticket back to Casey’s to verify her win.
“I kept going over it and going over it to make sure it was in the right lines,” she recalled. I went to have it checked, and it said something like, ‘fill out claim form.’”
Troy said the clerk then asked, “Do you know how much this is worth? I think it’s $5,000.”
That was all the verification she needed. She called her manager to let her know she would be taking vacation the next day to claim her prize. Troy, 55, drove the ticket to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City on Aug. 26.
“It was really exciting,” she said. “I’m really happy!”
Troy said she had plans that she had been holding off on, but after collecting her prize, she would “do what I want to do.” That includes adding a privacy fence to her house and spoiling her grandkids.
Although this was her first big win, Troy has no plans to quit playing now. She said she’ll be sticking with the “Bedazzled” ticket as long as it lasts. She offered some advice for other Lottery players.
“Keep playing. Keep hoping,” she said.
” is a $3 game that began Aug. 13. The game features six top prizes of $50,000.
