Lottery Director Presents Check to Joplin Public School Program

The employees of the Missouri Lottery, through its social organization called ALF, collected $6,093.64 in donations to help Joplin Public Schools in the aftermath of the massive tornado that hit the city on May 22. Missouri Lottery Executive Director May Scheve Reardon presented an oversized check in that amount today to Joplin Public School Superintendent Dr. C.J. Huff and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Angie Besendorfer. According to school officials, they plan to use the donation to purchase Nook e-readers for their students in the Bright Futures program.

Donations were received from Lottery employees, vendors, retailers, players and the public from May 23 to June 30. The Lottery employee group chose to give the donation to a program within the Joplin Public Schools, since the mission of the Missouri Lottery is to raise money for public education.
