Ash Grove Man Claims $1.2 Million Lotto Prize

William Brookes of Ash Grove, a former federal government employee, is adding “a little extra” to his retirement account, thanks to matching all six numbers in the Missouri Lotto drawing on July 30. The 69-year-old purchased the winning Quick Pick ticket worth $1.2 million at Kum & Go, 3015 W. Republic Road, in Springfield.

“I had to put on my reading glasses,” Brookes explained, recalling the moment he checked his ticket against the winning numbers on Molottery.com. “I showed my wife the ticket, and neither one of us could believe it.”

Brookes added that although “everybody dreams about winning,” he never thought he would actually hit a Lotto jackpot.

Lotto winners have the option to receive their prize in 25 annual payments or as a lump-sum payment. Brookes selected the $600,000 cash option.

For selling the winning ticket, Kum & Go received a bonus check for $12,000 – equal to 1 percent of the advertised jackpot.

Lotto is a twice-weekly Draw Game with jackpots that start at $1 million and grow until someone wins. The winning numbers from the July 30 drawing were:  1, 16, 24, 26, 29 and 41.
