Hermann Man Uncovers $10,003 Lottery Prize

Story Photo David Abbott thought he might have a profitable Missouri Lottery ticket when the clerk who sold it to him said it was a winner. He never imagined it would be worth $10,003.
“Typically, they don’t say anything when I ask,” Abbott said.
He purchased the “5 Times Bingo” Scratchers ticket at Hermann Fuel Mart, 115 B Highway 19 in Hermann, and then headed home to spend some time in the air conditioning. Abbott parked himself in his recliner in front of the television and began to play the game. When he first uncovered the prize, he thought he won $1,000.
“I didn’t have my glasses on,” he explained.
But when he looked at it again on the way back to Hermann Fuel Mart, he realized it was worth much more. The 55-year-old had his favorite clerk confirm his good fortune, a $10,003 win that tops the list for the regular Lottery player.
A new washer and dryer could be in his immediate future, but Abbott seemed uncertain about how he would spend the money.
“I’m not sure yet, but I want to have some fun,” he declared.
“5 Times Bingo” is a $3 game that officially began May 28. The game features a top prize of $55,558, and has more than $9 million in prizes remaining.
