Ballwin Man Wins 'American Muscle' Car

Story Photo audio icon William Adams may work at a BMW dealership, but he knows American muscle cars. The 54-year-old Ballwin man had been playing the Missouri Lottery “American Muscle” Scratchers game because he appreciates the motif. He was shocked to uncover the instant prize of a new car.

“I presently own a couple muscle cars,” said Adams. “I have a couple Mustangs, a ’69 Mach I, and then I have an ’86 Mustang GT.”

Since he recently replaced a vehicle damaged in a tornado, he opted to take the cash prize – valued at more than $57,000. The four vehicles offered as prizes in the game also include money to pay the taxes.

“I’ve been playing that game several times, thus far,” explained Adams. “I’m a regular Lottery player; (I) religiously play the Powerball and Lotto every week, and then I’ve been supplementing with a scratch-off.”

Adams bought the winning ticket at Discount Smoke Shop, 14666 Manchester Road, in Ballwin. He uncovered the prize on July 23 while relaxing at home.

“I kept scratching it, and I couldn’t believe it,” recalled Adams. “I looked at it and looked at it in disbelief. It was very exciting.”

Adams said he celebrated by sharing a few cocktails with his girlfriend, Carmen. By the time he claimed the ticket at the St. Louis Lottery office on July 25, he had already made up his mind on how to spend the money.

“I’m probably going to take a little vacation, catch up on a few things and keep playing the Lottery,” he offered.

“American Muscle” is a $5 game that officially began May 28. In addition to the top prize of $75,000, players can also win one of four designated muscle cars instantly. Non-winning tickets are eligible for entry in the “Muscle Car Mania” second-chance promotion, which offers a chance to win a muscle car, a year’s worth of free gas or prizes of $500. The final entry deadline for the “Muscle Car Mania” promotion is Aug. 23.
