Union Lottery Winner Sets Sights on Surprise Summer Vacation
John Jones of Union is about to tell his wife and two children to pack their bags for an impromptu summer vacation, thanks to uncovering a $20,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery “$5,000,000 Cash Extravaganza” Scratchers ticket. The 50-year-old purchased the winning ticket this morning at Petro Mart, 1000 E. Main St., in Union.
“I was drinking my coffee and smoking a cigarette, and I was thinking, ‘That’s got more zeros than I thought,’” said Jones, who was sitting in his truck outside of the store when he scratched off the prize amount.
The lucky Lottery winner immediately drove home.
“I went in, and I told my wife that I needed to go to St. Louis,” he recalled, noting that he didn’t inform his wife about the win at the time.
Jones plans to tell his entire family this afternoon after claiming his prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis office.
As for how he’ll spend the windfall, he will pay bills and “take my family on a trip.”
“The kids will be excited,” he added.
When it comes to advice for fellow Lottery players, Jones said players should “keep trying.”
