Columbia Woman Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize
Melissa Estill of Columbia said the experience of winning $10,000 on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket has been “wonderful.” When the customer in front of her at Break Time, 2402 Paris Road in Columbia, refused to buy a ticket, she calmly waited for her chance to get it.
“I noticed they had some new tickets,” she explained. “I always buy the new tickets. Some gentleman was going to buy it, and he decided that he didn’t want it. I told the girl, since she had already torn it off, ‘I’ll take it.’”
That ticket, a new Missouri Lottery game called “Aces & 8’s,” turned out to be a $10,000 winner. Estill would discover the prize while running errands.
“I just threw it on my dashboard and went on the other side of town,” began Estill, who scratched the first line of the ticket at a stoplight.
“I scratched off the number, and I saw the one and then zero,” she continued. “I thought I had won $10 or $100. Then I saw the $1,000 and didn’t think it was right. I drove a little more, and then I pulled over and scratched another line. I got so nervous that I pulled over, completely out of traffic, and scratched the whole thing.”
In disbelief, Estill took the ticket to two different retail locations to verify it, before calling friends and family.
“I just sat down, put the ticket down and took a deep breath,” she recalled. “I said, ‘Someone’s watching over me, because they know I need another car. Thank you, thank you, thank you.’ It will answer a lot of my questions, things I need to have done. All I can do is thank the man upstairs.”
Estill said the prize will help her pay bills and purchase a newer car. She said that she would share some money with her father, who has kept her current car “on the road,” as well as her grandkids. She may use a little to spoil herself.
“It’s something I never do. I buy for everybody else in the family, but don’t buy for me. As silly as it sounds, I’m going to get a pedicure and a manicure, and then buy some clothes,” she laughed.
“It’s about time!” she added about her good fortune.
“Aces & 8’s”
is a $2 game that officially began July 2. Players can win up to $25,000 instantly on the ticket.
