Rick Minton had a few dollars left following lunch on June 30, so the information technology worker decided to try his luck on a Missouri Lottery “American Muscle” Scratchers ticket. It proved to be a very productive lunch for the 52-year-old, as he walked away with a ticket worth a quick $5,000.

Minton took the ticket he purchased at Village Mart, 3317 E. Kearney St. in Springfield, and headed back to the office, still unaware that it was a winner. It would be later in the afternoon when he decided to scratch it off during a break.

“All of a sudden, it was ‘you lucky dog,’” he said of his co-workers’ reactions. “And my boss gave me a high-five.”

Minton also got the rest of the afternoon off to go to the Lottery office to claim his prize.

“I probably wouldn’t have been much good the rest of the day anyway,” he laughed.

He said he plans to fix the air-conditioning in his vehicle and share a portion of the winnings with his parents.

American Muscle," a $5 Scratchers ticket offering a top prize of $75,000, officially began May 28. In addition to the two remaining top prizes, a total of seven American-made muscle cars – valued at more than $40,000 each – will be awarded instantly through the game.

Through August 23, players may also enter non-winning “American Muscle” tickets into the “Muscle Car Mania” second-chance promotion for a chance to win an American MuscleTM car of the winner’s choice, a year’s worth of free gas or $500 toward a muscle car makeover.
