A team of 27 co-workers has been selected as the Missouri Lottery’s July Team of the Month as part of the Lottery’s ongoing Captains Club promotion. The team, which call themselves “init2winit27,” work at an injection molding facility in Bridgeton.
“We run 24/7,” said Sharon White, who serves as the team’s Lottery organizer. “We have people from every department – quality control, office, plant, supervisors, warehouse. There’s a mix of everyone.”
That mix includes: Paula Frisby and Jim Siedler, both of Arnold; Bobbie Mason and Gary Porterfield, both of Ballwin; Charles Presley and Sharon White, both of Barnhart; Carrie Crum of Ferguson; Annette Clark, Jennifer Hussong and Jennifer Moergen, all of Florissant; Harold Talbott of Granite City; Mike Lyons of Herculaneum; Tammy Alred of Imperial; Terry Davis, Tony Hollingsworth and Tim Murray, all of O’Fallon; Becky Piel of St. Ann; David Cepeda and Harold Overstreet, both of St. Charles; Cicely Bush, Angie Cusumano, Shpend Hysi, Robert Johnson, Rajwant Kahlon, Brahim Mehmetaj, Steve Stark and Vanneta Steele, all of St. Louis.
White said it all started when a small team of just three members began playing together in 2006.
“We kind of played and just kept getting other people that wanted to get involved in it,” she explained. “It just grew and grew.”
Members of the “init2winit27” team each pay $5 per month, which allows the group to buy five Lotto, five Powerball and five Mega Millions tickets for each of the drawings the following month.
White said the group once won $569 on a Lotto ticket, and team members got to decide whether they wanted cash for their part of the prize or a credit for future months’ play.
“It was very exciting,” she said. “It averaged out to most of us playing about six months for free.”
Ideas for what to do with any big jackpot prize they may win are as varied as the group’s members.
“I think a majority of people would love to pay off their homes, though,” White said.
As the Lottery’s Team of the Month, “init2winit27” will receive a prize package of Lottery merchandise, as well as a feature on the Lottery’s official website at Molottery.com.
