Springfield Area Builders Split $100,000 Lottery Prize

Story Photo audio icon Two Springfield area builders who frequently play the Lottery together claimed a $100,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery “10X The Money” Scratchers ticket. Keith Harris of Aurora bought the ticket on a soda run after checking with Rickey Billingsley of Ozark about “going halves.”
When asked about the arrangement, Harris said they buy tickets together “just so one of us isn’t left out.” Harris, who owns Harris Excavating, said Billingsley has done his drywall work for about 11 years.
Harris, 45, returned to the job site where Billingsley, 54, was working to scratch the tickets. He uncovered the top prize in the game, and the two quickly began making plans to claim it at the Springfield Lottery office. They made the trip a few hours later on June 9.
“We went crazy,” recalled Harris about discovering the prize. “It’s exciting. I dropped my soda-pop I bought.”
Neither winner had definitive plans for the windfall, although Harris said he was planning an anniversary trip to Hawaii with his wife, Ella.
“We were planning that anyway, but this is going to make it real nice to go,” he said.
10X The Money” is a $5 game that officially began April 30. Harris bought the winning ticket at Rapid Roberts, 205 Pirate Lane, in Crane. This is the third top prize claimed out of nine available in the game.
