Springfield Woman Celebrates Birthday with $10,000 Lottery Prize
Crystal Varvel of Springfield had a very happy birthday this year. The mother-of-two not only celebrated her 29th birthday with family and friends, but she also did something she’s never done before; she won a $10,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery game.
“My husband said, ‘Get that, because it’s new,’” Varvel recalled, referring to the decision to purchase an “American Muscle™” Scratchers ticket at QuikTrip, 2805 N. Kansas Expressway, in Springfield.
The couple started “jumping up and down for joy and screaming” after uncovering the prize.
“We just kept looking at it,” she said. “It can’t be possible! We’ve never won more than a ticket or $5.”
Varvel, an assistant manager at Edco Group, Inc., in Springfield, said she and her husband knew immediately how to spend the prize money.
“We’re going to pay our second mortgage!” she exclaimed, noting that the final mortgage payment will reduce her family’s monthly budget by $300.
“It’s going to greatly help out financially,” she added. “I’m very relieved. A big weight has been lifted off our shoulders.”
," a $5 Scratchers ticket offering top prizes of $75,000 and muscle cars valued at more than $40,000, officially began May 28.
