Springfield Man Plans to Donate Lottery Prize to Joplin Tornado Fund

Story Photo audio icon A Springfield man has “passed go” and collected a $1,000 check, thanks to winning an unexpected prize on a Missouri Lottery “Mega MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket. Fifty-six-year-old Richard Maglietto purchased the winning ticket at Harter House, 1625 S. Eastgate Ave., in Springfield.

“I went grocery shopping, and I bought four tickets,” said Maglietto. “And, I just got back from Hawaii the day before!”

The retired truck driver noted that the recent tornado devastation in Joplin, which is approximately 60 miles away from his home, went from “bad to good,” when he won the prize.

“I’m going to donate some of this money to Joplin,” he explained.

With whatever is left of his winnings, he plans to “get my windows tinted on my car.”

“I’m very happy,” said the father-of-two and grandfather-of-five, who added that he also took his “daughter and grandson out to breakfast” to celebrate the win.

Mega MONOPOLY” is a $10 game that officially began on Aug. 29, 2009.
