Villa Ridge Woman Claims First $75,000 'American Muscle' Prize

What started as an errand after a doctor’s appointment landed Cheryl Stoeckel with a $75,000 Lottery prize, an amount the Villa Ridge woman says will put her on track for paying off bills and switching out the family’s automobiles.

“I get these notions,” she said of her decision to purchase an “American Muscle” Scratchers ticket at Circle K, 5253 Mattis Road, in St. Louis. “I like the $5 tickets, so I said, ‘Oh well, I’ll try it because it’s for a car.’”

Scratching her ticket before even leaving the store’s parking lot, Stoeckel soon realized she was holding a $75,000 grand prize.

“I went running back in there,” she laughed.

She had her ticket checked and then called her husband, James, and tried to convince him she had really won.

“He finally said, ‘Oh my God, calm down and sign it,’” she shared, still laughing about the way her morning had unexpectedly unfolded.

The two met up at the Lottery’s regional office in St. Louis, where James could be heard in the background explaining to his boss that his wife had a winning ticket and wondering if he could get the night off work.

American Muscle," a $5 Scratchers ticket offering a top prize of $75,000, officially began May 28. In addition to the two remaining top prizes, a total of seven American-made muscle cars – valued at more than $40,000 each – will be awarded instantly through the game.

Through August 23, players may also enter non-winning “American Muscle” tickets into the “Muscle Car Mania” second-chance promotion for a chance to win an American MuscleTM car of the winner’s choice, a year’s worth of free gas or $500 toward a muscle car makeover.
