Mike Basler’s regular stop at a convenience store began normally on May 20. He frequently stops in Macon to fill up his gas tank, get a soda and pick up a few Lottery tickets. But on May 20, Basler, 57, an electrical worker from Clarence, got charged up after winning $100,000 with a Missouri Lottery “10X the Money” Scratchers ticket. He purchased the winning ticket at Mini Mart, 28841 Sunset Dr., in Macon.

“I stopped in to buy some gas and bought a few tickets. I won $40 on them, so I bought another ticket and won $10. I figured I was feeling lucky, so I bought one more. That was the $100,000 winner,” Basler said about his impulse to purchase the winning ticket.

His wife, Mitzie, was in shock after getting a call from her husband.

“I still can’t believe we won,” Mitzie explained. “When I called my niece to tell her, all she could say was ‘shut up!’”

Despite some resistance, Basler’s win is generating excitement in his hometown of Clarence, population 915. He insists he will stay grounded after his win and not go ‘crazy’ with his winnings.

“My wife has her eye on a new car. We also need to do some work on our house, and I’ll share some with my kids,” explained the father of three and grandfather of seven. “I’ll also do some fishing.”

The Missouri Lottery’s "10X the Money" Scratchers game offers a top prize of $100,000 and more than $18 million in prizes overall.
