Park Hills Winner Shares Wealth with the Crowd
A Park Hills woman had her “five minutes of fame” after becoming a local celebrity for winning a Missouri Lottery Club Keno prize. Joy Hall, 59, won $5,475 on a 7-spot ticket that she purchased at M.A.C. Elks Lodge, 1438 E. Chestnut in Desloge, on May 19.
“I was sitting there and watching my numbers come up,” Hall recalled. “I just kept saying, ‘I’ve got that number. I have all seven numbers!’”
Hall, who doesn’t play Club Keno often, asked a friend what it meant that she matched seven numbers on her Quick Pick ticket.
“She flipped my ticket over, and said, ‘about $5,000!’” she said over laughter. “Then I just kind of yelled and told the bartender to buy a round for everybody.”
Winning the Missouri Lottery isn’t anything new to Hall, who won $3,125 on Pick 4 “about five years ago.”
After enjoying a celebratory drink on her with the entire bar, she “bought another ticket,” while her husband of 35 years “kind of sat back and let me have my glory.”
“People were coming up and congratulating me, and he just kind of stepped aside,” she noted.
Not only is Hall a lucky Lottery winner, but she is also a dedicated friend, who explained that she waited several days to claim her prize because of a commitment she made to help a neighbor with a garage sale.
“Some people said, ‘Well, I would think that getting your money first would be best,’ but I knew she really needed the help, so I figured that I could wait.”
As for plans for the windfall, Hall and her husband will “mostly pay bills.”
“It will make things easier,” she said. “It’s already lifted a lot off of my shoulders and my mind thinking that I’m going to get some bills paid, and I’m going to be okay.”
