Special Lottery Delivery for Sullivan Letter Carrier
Avid fisherman Randy Richter of Sullivan said he was drawn to the Missouri Lottery’s “Bass Pro Shops®” Scratchers ticket, because he liked the theme of the game and the idea of winning one of the three grand prizes available in the “Ultimate Outdoor Adventure” second-chance promotion. After viewing a list of winners online from the first drawing on May 5, his first thought was, “Holy, cow!” Richter, 57, was the grand-prize winner, scoring an outdoor adventure trip package of his choice, selecting from among 10 all-inclusive adventure packages worth more than $24,000.
“My son was here taking a shower, and I’m sitting here at the computer going, ‘Oh, my gosh!’” the father-of-four recalled. “He said, ‘Dad, are you okay?’ I said, ‘Just take your shower. I’m fine. I’ll let you know when you come out.’ I just couldn’t believe it!”
Tempted by one of the trip options, an Alaska angling adventure for five days located at the confluence of the Kenai and Moose rivers, Richter explained that when given the option of taking the cash value of the trip, he “had to pick the money.”
“I need that more than the fishing trip, even though the fishing trip would be awesome!” he stated.
Richter added that he intended on keeping the news of his win to himself, but he admitted with a laugh that he “couldn’t do it.”
“I told everybody at work,” he said over laughter.
In fact, the letter carrier didn’t just tell his co-workers at the Sullivan post office, where he’s worked for more than 32 years; he shared the wealth with everybody.
“The next day, I bought a bunch of sausage biscuits and brought them into work. So, I celebrated that way,” he said.
As for how he’ll spend the windfall, he plans to “pay off a bunch of bills and start saving more.”
Richter summed up his Lottery-winning experience saying that he had always hoped he’d win a Lottery prize, but he “didn’t think it would ever happen.”
“This is awesome!” he exclaimed. “I still kind of don’t believe it.”
Richter purchased the “Bass Pro Shops®” Scratchers ticket that he used to enter the “Ultimate Outdoor Adventure” second-chance promotion at B&B Kwik Stop, 116 S. Service Road, in Sullivan.
The $5 “Bass Pro Shops
®” Scratchers ticket offers players a chance to win up to $75,000 and more than 750 Bass Pro Shops gift cards worth $500.
