Vandalia Man Strikes Second Top Prize

Story Photo audio icon Michael Young of Vandalia is in the habit of buying one Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket on his way to work. He usually scratches it in the parking lot of Hubbell Power Systems in Centralia before he clocks in. Following routine, he purchased a “Battleship” Scratchers ticket on May 11 at Pick-A-Dilly, 101 E. Highway 54, in Vandalia. When the ticket revealed a top prize of $50,000, it was deja vu all over again.

“I was shaking – couldn’t believe it,” recounted Young. “I called my wife and told her.”

It was a familiar feeling for Young, who had a similar experience in March 2010. He uncovered a $30,000 top prize on a “Triple Payout” ticket a little more than a year ago.

“The last one we won, we paid off all of our debts except for the house,” Young explained. “My wife and I are going to talk about it, but we’ll probably remodel the house.”

Young said he will stick with his routine of buying one ticket on his way to work. The practice has already yielded two Missouri Lottery top prizes, and he hopes more are to come.

Battleship” is a $3 game that officially began April 30. This is the first top prize to be claimed in the game. Three more top prizes and more than $5 million in other prizes remain to be found. Players can track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at Molottery.com.
