A team of co-workers at Scholastic in Jefferson City has been selected as the Missouri Lottery’s May Team of the Month as part of the Lottery’s ongoing Captains Club promotion. The “Lotto Hope Gals” play Powerball and Mega Millions twice each week, citing that they love their jobs processing payments for student book orders, but they’d also “love to give some other people a chance to have our jobs” after a big Lottery win.
They formed their Lottery team about two years ago, based on the suggestion of Shirley Ferrin, who serves as the team’s captain and coordinator.
“I said, ‘Let’s play the Lottery!” she said. “And now we play every week, no matter how high the jackpot is.”
The “Lotto Hope Gals” include: Edie Reichel of Belle; Shannon Hendricks of Eldon; Shirley Ferrin of Eugene; Wanda Reinkemeyer of Freeburg; Fern Hake, Melison Kinter, Teresa Mackay and Debby Koestner, all of Holts Summit; Dawn Becker, Marianne Britten, Paula Hicks, Natasha McMillin, Crystal Mertens, Cheryl Rackers, Penny Riley, Mindy Roberds, Missy Roberds, Arleta Turner and Latasha Wallace, all of Jefferson City; Lynn Byrd, Helen Grellner and Sally Schneider, all of Linn; Carol Jordon of New Bloomfield; Iva Roark of Russellville; and Barb Linnenbrink of Taos.
So far, the group has put any winnings toward the purchase of additional tickets.
“If we would win BIG,” said Ferrin, “I think most of us would pay all our bills off then enjoy life and, yes, give our jobs to some others that really need a job. That would be a great way to share!”
As far as why the group continues to play, she said she believes players shouldn’t give up.
“You might be a winner next week!” she concluded.
As the Lottery’s Team of the Month, “The Lotto Hope Gals” will receive a prize package of Lottery merchandise, as well as a feature on the Lottery’s official website. To tell us about your team, or learn more about any Missouri Lottery games, visit Molottery.com.
